Rider 400
Hi,

My Rider 400 is up to date with latest updates. But already for a couple of years it is getting slower. Now I tried a factory reset and after that it responded like it was new out of the box (not fast, but really acceptable). :)

But it took just a week of using it and everything was back as slow as can be. Next to that (and not acceptable for me) it now is also instable. Screen is hanging/turns black sometimes and at that moment the only thing you can do, is wait (for sometimes more than 15 minutes) or reset it. After a factory reset everything is ok again.

Seems to me that after updates it gets slower overtime (resulting in instability at the end).
Do you have the same experience with the TomTom 400 and can you advice what to do (next to repeating factory resets)?

Thanks for your reply!

No I didn't. What is the difference between "restoring" and factory reset? And how to "restore" the software?

Not yet, will try it in the spring, because during winter I'm not using my bike/TomTom. Otherwise, I won't be able to test it anyway.

I have the same issues with my 400

Performed the suggested solutions, but still it ends up being terribly slow after a while. I suspect the fact that contacts are being synced every time again when restarting the device. This takes up to an hour or more and seems to cost that much computing power for the poor thing, that even a simple tap on the screen takes 10s or more to execute.

My question to you experts therefore would be: how can I stop the TomTom from downloading contact information every single time. I checked the internet for solutions, but couldn't find anything.

I'm not sure I think it must be possible to disable hands-free calling on your GPS?

Did some fiddling with settings on my TomTom 400. What helps is not selecting the computer voice but using a recorded voice. This in combination with not using my headset (therefore no updating of contacts!), results in a fast responding device again. 😁

Because I need my headset, probably I'm going to use another possible solution to prevent contacts to be synced: disable "access to contacts" in the TomTom 400 Bluetooth settings on my phone.

But this, I still need to test to be sure.

Yep, tested it last weekend during a 1200km trip. Solves the issue of slowness. So, two things need to be done:
1) Use recorded voices instead of computer voice.
2) Disable access to contacts in Bluetooth settings of TomTom on your phone.
