I recently purchased a 930 and just downloaded the new N/A map ver 8.05. This unit was replacing my Garmin Streetpilot 2610 that needs repairing. I use a GPS to quickly route me to customers homes to do plumbing repairs, I bought the 930 because I could speak an address to the unit as I drove. These maps are the worst I have seen for my area, I have roads in large subdivisions that are completely in the wrong place or none existent. I ran the same route on Garmins maps that are last years and the roads are there! I could buy the new Garmin unit that has voice recognition but it costs lots more $$$. What say yall? I have 12 days left to return it and the Garmin unit is not out yet.

Can you give a few examples of street names and zips that are incorrect on TT and correct on Garmin.

Well, streets that have been in existence for over 10 years are in the wrong place and other streets do not exist

Map quality varies geographically. If it's grossly inaccurate where you are, then your best bet is to return it and get something that uses Navteq maps.

For my area I find that the TeleAtlas maps are just as accurate as Navteq.

Amazon currently has the Garmin StreetPilot c580 for $225. If that's not the model you want, it may be cheap enough to tide you over until the model you do want is released.

After looking around a little maybe it will be OK. Just a fluke on that one street hopefully. I wish there was a way to look at the map on the PC like Garmin.
When I edit/correct my maps on the device shouldn't it correct it for me so next time I won't get screwed up navigating back there? I did that but it still shows those streets being there?

It won't change the map itself but it won't route you again on the corrected streets. I think with these maps some areas are going to be more precise than others. I see some errors in my area ( Baltimore ) but I also see some detail that I wouldn't have expected to see in certain spots. I've had a 720, 920 and now a 930 and I've really been pleased. I think the Mapshare feature will prove it's worth to you as time goes on.

I would think that if you had the ability to return it, do so before it is too late. Doesn't seem as though TT works for you in your area. At least you found out early instead of late.

if you submitted it to mapshare, they're not just going to delete it, it has to be confirmed by TT and all this other stuff.

You can however go in and block a road, and it won't use it anymore, it'll be there but it won't send you down it. This is also handy if it says a road is a 2 way street, and it's a 1 way, you can fix that too. I just don't remember how off the top of my head.

For example there is a road that comes off of a subdivision right in fron of my parents house, however this is an access road and has chained gates on it, so i went in and blocked it so it'd stop trying to take me down it.

As for operating it on the computer you can do that too. It's in the HOME menu under "operate my ___" the first you'll have to download an add on. it will then pull up a little screen that looks like your TT and you can do whatever you want for it. Also helpful if you need to add a lot of stuff, this way you can type with a keyboard. Also, if you have this set up you can go into googlemaps online, find a business (sorry only businesses no home address yet work) and then you click their send button, choose gps, and then TT. It will then send that exact coordinate into your TT and you can save it.

But a lot of these things take time to figure out and learn how to use well. If your time is running out and you're on the fence i would recommend taking it back for a different one you want. I was so tempted to take mine back for a garmin because a few little things on the TT piss me off. I didn't, but if I get another GPS, unless TT fixes a lot of stuff, I won't be getting another.

You will most likely still have to pay the restocking fee since it's opened, which is often 15%. So lets say you bought it from circuit ciity at their current $550 pricetag, 15% of that is $82.50, which will be penalized for wanting to switch. Is it worth loosing close to a hundred bucks?

Plus you mentioned the garmin you like costs a lot more. There's a big reason why garmin's cost more....
