TomTom 730 problem with altimeter program

I tried to install an altimeter program and the TT would not advance beyond the opening screen and would not shut off. I press the reset button and removed the new offending files and the same still happened (opening screen). I tried to do a restore and there was a fatal error with clmdata file. I removed all the files manually and restored them with a separate backup I had made (not with the TT Home). I have replaced all the files with the backup and the same still happens. It does advance beyond the opening screen. I have to press the reset button to shut it off. I am not asked whether I want connect to a computer; it just assumes I am. I have reset the unit and I still get an opening screen and nothing else. Any help/advice will be most appreciated. Thanks.
