I have had my tomtom for about 5 years, I have never successfully connected this to my pc for updates
When it is connected I can see the usual folders but was expecting a simple update icon to appear
Can anyone assist please?

Welcome to the forum. Do you have TTHome installed?
Before you do anything be sure you have made a back up using explorer and not home. That can save a lot of problems.
