TomTom Model(s)
VIA 1535TM
Ive done extensive testing over the last few days and wanted to point out the things Garmin doesnt have/use compared to Tomtom. The units that were used were the Tomtom VIA 1535TM and Garmin 3490LMT (top of the line unit)

GARMIN

NO MAPSHARE
Dated maps compared to tomtom
Cant make custom speed traps/cameras (u need subscription for that $$)
Cant display custom poi. Its all or nothing.
No set speed limits, you have to enter them all yourself
Cant change speed limits in road sections (helpful in city)
Does not show current road being traveled (am i missing something?)
No over speed audible warnings
Cant turn off annoying button press beep

There were a few with Tomtom ive noticed:

Tomtom
Traffic support spotty in canada (could just be me)
Sluggish touch response (all newer units)
Took away compass that older units had (really pissed about that)
Marking your own speed cams/traps not working (could also be me)

These are just the things that ive noticed. Am I missing anything? :D

AFAIK, all of the current Garmin automotive units will manage custom POI files without issue. You download all kinds of 3rd party POI lists (including speed and red light cam lists), or make your own.

and thats a pain in the a$$ to do as well:(

Im saying you cant just display gas stations, it shows every poi around the area. Anyways i took the garmin back. Tomtom has way more to offer.

Dated maps compared to tomtom:
In Europe everyone tends to say that the Garmin (Navteq) maps are usually more up to date than TomTo/TeleAtlas's map, and thatuser corrections are implemented in the base map data much quicker.

Cant make custom speed traps/cameras (u need subscription for that $$):
Not true... I help maintain the PocketGPSWorld speed camera database in the UK and there are certainly versions created every week for Garmin devices

Cant display custom poi. Its all or nothing (and the rest...)
Find that odd (due to the above) but I'll check with an owner.
