In-app login/purchase and general thoughts

I purchased TomTom U.S. & Canada yesterday for use on my iPhone 4. I've had other TomTom products that I've been happy with and I already had the car kit.

I works reasonably well. I tried to purchase TomTom Traffic for 12 months @ $19.99 and (a) between the two days of trying to login and not being able to and (b) all the complaints about traffic being down for days at a time I guess I should be thankful that I am unable to purchase it.

The problems with in-app purchase (doesn't seem to be any other way to do it), problems with keeping the traffic feature up and working, and customer service as far as acknowledging a problem and dealing with it make me not want to recommend this app to anyone. However, most of the other choices aren't much better. I notice that Garmin has chosen to stay out of the iPhone market altogether, which may be the best thing.
 
Speaking for myself, I have not had any problem subscribing to traffic on iPhone 4. Most of the time it also works reasonably well, although laggs behind realtime situations -- e.g. the traffic jams build up faster than TomTom reports.

The reason Garmin is not in the iPhone market is obvious: they are peddling their own integrated phone/GPS product!
