First time I have had a car with a TomTom so as far as I am aware it's a carminat TomTom it's got a SD card 25920 4051 R hope this info is good so far what I need to know can I play MP3 music through it or do I need some other kind of SD card I own a 2011 Renault Mégane any help would be great thanks

At a minimum, we need the first 2 characters of the serial number of your Carminat so we know what vintage it is. Some of the older Carminat units were capable of playing music, and mp3 files could be placed into the 'mp3' folder on those devices to make it happen. But again, vintage is important to the answer. Just curious -- does the SD card already have an 'mp3' folder on it?

Where will i find the details of the model

Connect your device to the computer and use Windows File Manager (or Finder if a Mac) to look at the contents of the drive represented by the tomtom device.

Look for a text file called ttgo.bf and the 3rd or 4th line will show the MUID value of the device. That is the serial number. The first two characters are what canderson is asking about.

Likely, one of the following:

"IA">Carminat TomTom + TomTom SD 4GB, HOME NAV2
"IB">Carminat LIVE, + SD 8GB, HOME / Carminat Z.E. LIVE + SD 4GB, HOME NAV2
"IF">Renault R-Link, 2GB + SD 2GB
"IG">Renault R-Link, 2GB + SD 2GB
"IH">Renault R-Link, 2GB + SD 2GB

That's helpful.
Take a look on your SD card for a folder in the root called 'mp3'. If you spot that, stuff a couple of .mp3 files in it, and after reinstalling, navigate your Carminat menu system to see if you can find an icon for Music or similar.
