Hi.
I am writing a site that generates POI output for GPS devices and I must admit to being a little confused over the ov2 and asc formats.

I understand the formats insofar as one is binary and the other ascii and I understand that they are POI files that can be downloaded to navigators.

What I need to know is are they both universally compatible with all TomTom devices or is there some set of devices that will only work with ov2?

Cheers,
Steve

ov2 format is used by TomTom and Co-Pilot, the asc was/ is for Navman, you should also consider csv format which is for Garmin and quite a few other platforms. There are translation software packages that can be used to alter the data to allow migration of POI files from/ to most formats, GPS Babel is worth having a look at for translating data - Mike
