No Route found... very frustrating TomTom Problem.

Just got back from a weekend in Vegas with TomTom. Overall, TomTom did really well, especially with warning me of turns early enough for me to wiggle though traffic.

However... I had a MAJOR problem as well.

Example:

As I left the rental car facility at the airport, I marked the location by hitting Favorites, GPS Location. I did this while sitting on the driveway of the rental facility not 50 feet from a road TomTom could see.

Later, when I tried to get back to the rental facility, TomTom gave me a "no Route" message!!!!!

Anyone else had this problem? I read the coordinated off TomTom and put them in my Nuvi 350, and Nuvi had no trouble plotting a course.

Try for yourselves! N36.06088, W 115.16429

I also had the same problem trying to find my way back to a large Casino I visited called Redrock casino.

My TomTom navigates to this point with no problem. Is it on E. Arby Ave.?

I'm using North America map v6.50

I'm on the 6.65 Maps. I created the point by hitting Add Favorites, GPS Position.

After seeing your post, I deleted the waypoint and manually entered the coordinates like you did. Now it finds the location no problem. I wonder if this is some bug with locations created by hitting GPS location.

At first I thought that maybe you have to be right on the road for this to work correctly. But I tested this by making a point in the middle of a park. The result is that the TT 'snaps' to a location on the closest street.

So your case is still a mystery.

I've had the same problem when the destination is in the middle of a parking lot off the road. When I changed the location to the road edge it worked fine. If there isn't a road that gets you to that spot it doesn't know what to do.

If you are already in the middle of the parking lot with the device it will draw a line to the nearest road and tell you to get there to navigate you somewhere else. The problem is when the destination is way off the road.

I experience the same issue with my TT700, even if I'm only a few feet from a known road. I have contacted TomTom, but they didn't have an answer for me. I just don't use the "GPS position" option to mark a location anymore.

I do use it sometimes but I use it while I'm just pulling off the road into the entrance or driveway.

No problem to get to that point (E Arby ave) from home: 4170km, 43hrs drive for me.:D

The units are really smart, but I guess there is a limit to the cleverness... I heard that TeleAtlas does a "block mapping" for addresses, so if your in the middle of the block (i.e. in a parking lot) problems may be generated to find that particular spot, or to use it as a reference (also if you're in the middle of a wood, hahaha).
The best advice would be to just walk to the sidewalk, verify on browse maps if you're located in a recognizable street, and save the gps position to avoid any problems (this happened to me sitting at my porch and saving my home address as a gps position as it wasn't on the 665 map).
