NEW Tomtom owner.

I just got a used Tomtom Go 700 on Freecycl;e.
I plugged it in in the car and it worked.
It showed the road I was driving on and where I was going.
What comes next?
I've heard of Tomtom and that's about it.
I know there is a subsciption you can buy, but I don't know what it is for and can't afford any subscription anyway.
Is this machine of any value to me as is or not?
I know on Ebay it's worth about $20.or so but if it's something I can use for traveling, I'll keep it.
Any ideas?

Tap the satellite bars on the unit and the next screen shows the version of the application installed. Tap the version number and the following screen shows the map installed and its version. What do both show?

It is version 7.903 and the map is North America V619.0

I suspect the map is at least 5 years old. You can try driving around your area and see if the map is showing roads as they are now. If not, then you probably should consider buying a unit with an up to date map.

The 700 model came out in 2005.

I don't have the money to buy anything.
If there isn't a recent map I can get for free I'll use it as is.
