If I wanted to buy this new map and install it on my SDHC 4gb card, would it overwrite the 920 POI's that I now have installed and am very happy with. I did speak with TomTom and asked about the map and I was led to believe that not much new was added to it but when I read the description on TomTom.com, it seems as there is a lot more added.

Does someone know for sure but my main concern is that it will overwrite my 920 POIs.

Thanks for any Help.

Kathy :)

New 7.15 Map

Do you have both maps installed on your unit?
Do you mean custom POIs or the previous map POIs?

No, I'm sorry -- I have the 720 and I downloaded the 920 POI's to my 720 after reading how to do it on this forum and I want to know if, when I would ddo an update of the new 7.15 NA Map, if it would overwrite these 920 POIs?

Kathy, just copy the poi.dat file and crpoi.dat file to a safe location on your computer, somewhere. Download the 7.15 map. Copy back to the new map the 2 .dat files.

north america 715 go720 maps poi.dat = 94.7MB
north america 710 go920 maps poi.dat = 263MB

so 920 is bigger....

My Tom Tom one 3rd edition shows a USA&Canada map version of 7.162. So is it newer than the Website version of 7.15? The one month free download limit seems much too short.

Well, what do you know ......

I'm now down to just under THREE HOURS to download the NA maps. The time for download has bounced around and was up to about 6 hours and then down and then up. Clearly, they need better/more servers!

We shall then see if there's room on my 920 for the new installs.

I had to call, scan my Costco receipt (which I could not find!) and I did request both NA and Euro maps. If I remember, to download the Euro maps, I will have to Manage Maps and open Euro?????

What a tedious process. And all this time, the TT is ON, its light is burnning and it is waiting for its maps to come HOME! (2:44 and counting.....)

Some info on the different (cr)poi.dat on maps versions and builds:

North_America v 715 build=1712
64,866,141 crpoi.dat
99,379,497 poi.dat
2 files 164,245,638 bytes

North_America v 710 build=1609
169,182,083 crpoi.dat
276,320,345 poi.dat
2 files 445,502,428 bytes

USA_and_Canada v 710 build=1575
57,939,335 poi.dat

I do not know about other versions/builds. If one has other info, go ahead...

It's from the larger POI set downloaded from a link here a while back. I think it's from the 920 north american map 710 version as the 715 didn't exist at that time.

From Gilbert's results, it seems the best thing to do is take the 920's poi & crpoi files and copy them to your 720's 715 map.

('you' meaning anybody with the 7.15 map  )
