TomTom Model(s)
4N00.004.2
Hi, I've just bought a Tom Tom 4N00.004.2 and would like some advice on how to update the maps software

Can anybody help?

Regards,
Steve

What model name was on the box.

Hi, thank you for your quick response unfortunately I don't have a box but on the devise it has this info if this helps?

tomtom ONE (4N00.004.2)
Bluetooth
FCC ID : SALONE-ED
IC : 5767A-ONEED
N14644
C_NO : E21516G07913

Does that help?

You may not be able to. TomTom announced the End of Life for many models similar to yours. If you do want to try to update, connect to Home and select the Purchase maps icon.

The device you bought is certainly not new, it's about 10 years old. I hope you didn't pay much for it.

Anyway, get Home at tomtom.com/getstarted.

Yeah, a serial # starting with E would be associated with a 2006 unit having no internal memory -- all executable and data files on the card. All units with that memory model appear to be on the 'end of life' list. Although the unit came with a 1GB card, it was possible to install a 2GB card, but I don't think TomTom is looking at it that way.

To the OP: Can you identify which map(s) is(are) currently loaded on the unit? At least we can give you an idea of how dated they are - or aren't.

£25 off ebay, too much?
Personally I'm okay as my vehicle has one built in but was a present for my 83 old father who's always wanted but doesn't drive far anyway. :)
I'll keep you updated

Hi all, yep as feared I can't update my TomTom as it's too old.
I've registered and read the manual but nothing happens when I tap the screen. Is that because I'm sitting in my living room and I have to stand outside for 5 mins?
I've connected my TomTom to my computer and it's charging. It switches on but nothing happens when I tap the screen.

Any advice?

Wait until it has been charged for at least 4 hours.
Then power it on and carefully push a paper clip into the Reset hole underneath.
You then should see the TomTom logo on the screen and hear the drum roll.
It that made it work it may take another minute to reboot itself.

Hi all, all working now except the sound. No drum roll at the start or voice.
I've checked all the settings and spoken to TomTom customer services and there's nothing they can do or tell me as the device is from 2006.
Does anybody out there have any suggestions?

Steve

Since there's no drum sound when rebooting, it sounds like the speaker is shot or disconnected (or perhaps just not reconnected after a battery replacement). Either way, it would require opening the device and doing some work to find out.

Hi, I've taken it apart and the speaker is still connected and I've watched a youtube video showing how to remove the speaker and it looks really easy (famous last words)
Does anybody know the best place for spare parts?

If you are a bit handy...
DISCONNECT the speaker.
Take a tiny bit of wire, and carefully apply the juice from any 1-1/2 volt battery briefly on/off the terminals for the speaker. If the speaker is working, you'll hear it.
