TomTom Model(s)
xl N14644
I was a given an old Tomtom and I'm trying to figure out if its worth using, Its out of date for sure, but I'm wondering where to get the mapping software so I can at least try it out. Ideas?

Unfortunately, MANY people with TomTom units that they did not buy new think that N14644 is a model number. So you're in good company. It's actually just a regulatory approval number which could apply to any number of different XL models.

So let's start by figuring out what you own, then we can sort what level it's at now, whether it needs to be updated, and if so, what kind of support still exists for it. One thing for certain, no XL model has enough memory to support the newer map updates.

Please identify the first two characters of the device's serial number.

Hello, i have tomtom xl n14644 and first two characters s/n is RM. I put europe_central_925_5439 and run fastactive, but tomtom doesnt boot. Still show logo tomtom. Please help me. Thank you.

I don't know what 'fastactive' is but the serial number starting with RM = "RM">XL 30 Series, 1GB, HOME NAV2 EoL which means it is an End of Life device. In other words, no further map or any other updates.

4E

4 E is not the serial number of the XL normally the XL starts with an R

XLs are no longer supported by Tomtom so it is no longer possible to update the maps.

see this video to find the serial number

RU 432 0b0 3079 Is the serial number. Is there an update to this series.
pls email (e-mail address removed)

Your device starting with "RU" is an old XL IQRoutes 340S, released in 2009. It has only 2GB of internal memory, and has no uSD card slot to add any additional memory. Due to small memory and increasing map data size, your device was declared 'end of life' at TomTom, and no new updates are being made available for it.

I understand the XL 30 is EoL, but I'd like to know if there are older "updates" for those of us still using them. For instance, my XL30 latest map version is 830.2285 (US). Is there a way to get the last available update for this device?

It is important to understand that your GPS unit has been declared "end-of-life" by TomTom.
TomTom will not develop map updates for a GPS unit that has been declared end-of-life.

I think the last release for an XL30 was at about version 995, which is still ANCIENT in map terms (September 2017), so even if you could figure out how to find and load one, it's not going to do you a great deal of good now. The specific XL 30 in question also determines which map(s) it could handle since the XL30 came in everything from 512MB to 2GB internal memory models.

In any case, all of the 30 Series XL models are what we call "Nav2" devices, and the map must be obtained from TomTom specifically for the serial number of your device since the map is keyed to that serial number. If you can't get TomTom Home to give you anything, I'm afraid you're out of luck. Just for grins, have you tried that yet? It shouldn't work, but it's worth a whirl.
