how to change yard to fraction miles

I have an XL, when I approach a street, it tells me the distance in a fraction mile, i.e. one quarter mile. I just bought my son a 450 XL and when approaching a street, it tells me in yards. I am using feet and miles, not metric. How can I change this so it operates like my older XL.

Does your model have text-to-speech and, if so, are you using a computer voice? If so, what do you hear with a recorded (non computer) voice?

I don't know. I am just using the recorded voice that came with the unit.

What options do you have under Voice Preferences on your unit? Do any listed have the word 'computer' beside them? Does the currently selected voice pronounce actual street names (that's what computer voices do).
