Help Tom Tom Start - Doesn't start

My tom tom suddenly stopped working and wont advance from start screen.Have connected it to P.C. via tom tom home and downloaded version 2.8
Do I need an activation code as it seems to complete the download cycle but will not let me past the start screen.

What model do you have? (The one listed under your name doesn't exist). Put the first 2 letters of the serial number (found on the bottom) in the location in this link to find out:

Have you tried esetting the unit by holding the power button 10 seconds or so till you hear the drum sounds (unless your model has a dedicated reset hole).
