Just got the 740 and I was wondering what is Automatic Zooming (in 2D and (3D). This may be enabled in the "Advanced preferences 2 of 2". I tried with enabled and without and I am not sure ithat I can notice a difference. Haven't traveled far with the 740, which may be the problem.

The reference manual is useless. It just explains that it can be enabled, but with not description of the feature.

"Automatic Zooming" is when your TomTom zooms in for a closer view as it's getting ready to speak an instruction like, "Turn right in 100 feet - Main Street". You'll notice the picture of the intersection is larger.

As the car slows down, the map zooms in on the junction you are about to turn on and then reverts back to a specific (not configurable) 'height' above the road.
