GO740 Car Charging issue

I Have a refurbed 740. It charges fine with the AC wall adapter and the USB port on the PC. It does not charge the battery when plugged into the car cigarette lighter. When the battery runs down the unit of course powers off.

The red light on the adapter is red and the battery indicator on the 740 is hidden so I know the unit is seeing the voltage.

Would would possibly cause this scenario?

Is there any way to try a different car charger? Is the one used a proper TomTom charger?

I figured I'd try that right after I posted. Guess I jumped the gun a little. Bought a universal car charger/adapter at Staples.
