Up until recently I could turn on my Tom Tom ONE XL and find directions before plugging it into the car. Lately I find that the battery is always flat so that I have to plug it into the car and turn on the ignition before it becomes operational. Even then I have to wait quite a while before it is charged enough to allow me to proceed. Why is this happening (I bought it in 2010)?

Obvious answer... because the battery is dying?
Seems a bit soon but stranger things have happened.

Battery Dying!!!

I am very disappointed that the battery would be dying so soon (I bought it in July 2010). I am also dismayed at the complexity of replacing it (I would probably ruin the thing). Perhaps I can find a place to do the replacement for me. It sounds as though my GPS is meant to be disposable. If I have to replace it I will try another brand even though this one has served me well for the short time I've had it.

Hi I had the same with my oneXL it was only 6 months old I sent it back and it was replaced they told me there was problems with the battery and the machine, they replaced it with a 1005 live. They were very good to deal with.

Yours would have been still within the warranty period whereas mine is eighteen months old. I might try contacting them in the hope that the will fix it for me.

The Battery on my Go 820 Live died soon after purchase Tom Tom replaced the unit with a new one, good service I think.:)

I'm a bit surprised to hear about these recently purchased ONE XL units. The unit bearing that name was released in 2007 here in the U.S. and in your market as well. I'm wondering if that might be some very old stock!

After checking on TomTom Support I realised I had an XL IQ Routes/340. I emailed my battery problem to TomTom Support and they replied very quickly. Apparently my battery wasn't dying at all. I was advised to plug it into my computer for four hours to recharge it. This worked! I was most impressed with TomTom's rapid and helpful response.

Your battery should be recharging while plugged into your vehicle, so I guess I don't understand why plugging it into your computer would be any different. If you drive around with your unit plugged in, turn the unit off and remove it from the car, is the battery 'flat' the next day? Was that your previous experience? If so, that's not right.
