I took a trip this past week with the family and went several states away. It's a 7 hour drive one way.

I set up the itinerary using Google Earth and Tyre. That worked great. On the way there the unit took the exact route I wanted between the waypoints I set. On the way back it took all kinds of screwy routes between roughly the same waypoints (I changed them for the other direction.)

One of the things I hate is when the TT interrupts the Audiobook or music to give directions. It's so jarring to get yanked out of what you are listening too. And then when it has to give the same direction 3 times in 20 seconds as you approach. In and out of what you're listening to. This significantly reduces the value of listening to Audiobooks or music.

I did really enjoy being able to create itineraries for local destinations. I wanted to find a Barnes and Noble, so I looked it up on the Internet and programed the location and get driving directions. I even utilized some POI's that were programmed. Very nice.

I definitely enjoy having the unit, and I'm looking forward to tweaking it before the big summer vacation in August.

Sounds like you had a great trip! GPS definitely improves our quality of life on the road; a lot less stress. It's great to be able to "see" beyond the horizon. I am also looking forward to longer summer road trips ahead. :)
