What is the difference between the tomtom go 540 and 550?

In North America, the 550 had a simplified menu compared to a 540. Neither has been in production for many years now and, in fact, will likely soon be added to TomTom's list of End of Life list whereby no further maps will be offered.

I just received a notice for a map update for my GO 930, advising me at the same time that the subscription expires by 24/10/2017.
As the Tech told me, had I waited until November 01,2016 I would have not been able to buy another subscription for my device any longer.
