Currency Conversion When Buying Maps

I wasn't sure where to put this. When you buy maps from the TOMTOM site it shows the price in GBP. Whey they charge your credit card is it a straight conversion to USD or are there taxes or fees involved?

Nope, no taxes are involved. It's just a straight conversion to your native currency. The VAT (value-added tax) doesn't apply to non-UK customers.

I do a lot of international travel and I find that the bank cards usually add an additional 2-5% fee for making the currency exchange.

In the conversion from british pounds to us dollars it is around 5% which is the upper scale as compared when switching from us to canadian where it generally is around 2%

this is a fee that the bank charges for processing your out of country payments.
