Any machine with a USB port can charge your TomTom, but it does have to be on. You don't need to install the software to charge it. If you want to use a USB hub, you may need a powered USB hub to get enough of a charge (all depends on what else is connected to the hub and how much power those devices draw).

My Motorola H700 Bluetooth headset use the same USB connector that my TomTom GO 920 uses, and I've been able to charge my 920 using my H700's wall charger.

ah yes i saw the green light, so it was recharging
Some of the newer, high end laptops have USP ports which are powered when the laptop is switched off. The idea behind that is that cell phones and mp3 players can use the laptop battery.
Check yours, maybe it is powered on off mode already.

No, the green LED stays on as long as the unit is connected to a power source.

You cannot really be sure while connected with HOME. To test, connected or not, tap on the satellite strength bars. You will see the NavCore (operating system) of your machine. At the very RH top you will see the condition of charge of your TT. If you are fully charged, the charge indication with HOME keeps on jumping around. When you do that disconnected the battery will display as solid green.

BTW, if you tap again on your NavCore number you will get a screen giving you all the details of your TT, its operating system and the active map you are using.

Also, please go to the top of the page, click on UserCP, click Edit profile, go to the very bottom of the page and enter your model number in the appropriate box. You may get faster replies to questions from others with the same model.
