Yes...this is fun!

I just hope I don't "Screw the pooch" messing with it.

Is there some way to make the splash screen stay on longer?

BTW - Where is the Backup file saved to ? Which subdirectory (Filename?)

I do not like the fact that a backup overwrites the previous backup !

That is assinine!

I'd like to save each one by Date....

Backup by Date

To keep packups by date, attach your TT to the computer - without TT Home -
and drag the contents of the memory (or Chip) to a folder set up by date!
You can keep as many as you want!

For MS Windows the backup is in My Documents\TomTom\Home\Backup

Each backup is about 1 GB or 2 GB depending on the Maps installed so the average person probably is content with just on backup. Those that have 500 GB hard drives might be ok with 100 backups but that is not me.

PS Your opening screen is the best I've seen.

Well...if you liked the first one, maybe you'll like these...

See? I just knew this would happen, Doc. You're spending so much time creating the screens that you'll never get to use your unit! :) :)

p.s. re your avatar: I'm so old that not only do I know what it means but I watched the show (50's?). Mind you, I seem to remember a chess piece on the business card, not a tank.:D :D

Yes, it was a Knight on the card.

The Abrams is so much more intimidating.....

I was going to put on there

Have Gun, Will Travel
Wire the Pentigon
- USA -

But then, seeing as how everyone hates the war in Iraq,
I didn't want to get hate messages....

I hope the Pres sent one to Ol' Osama.....reach out and touch someone.

Yes, I even rented the entire HGWT series from NetFlix and watched it
until I couldn't stand it any more!

I can sing the ENTIRE HGWT song in my head !

"Have Gun Will Travel reads the card of a man,
a man without armor in a savage land.
His fast gun for hire heeds the calling wind.
A soldier of fortune is the man called Palladin....

Palladin, Palladin - where do you raom.
Palladin, Palladin - far, far from home....."

You can only take so much of Richard Boone's self rightious
nature and then you are saturated.

He was a good actor and so totally different than anyone I have
even seen since.

I am 65, teach College Chemistry part time and I do have a
lot of time on my hands....

I think you should have went with your instincts and put the first message, hoorah!

Okay, I replaced splash & antitheft with a couple of (non-rotated) images. The new splash file works fine, but it appears during both startup and shutdown.

When should the antitheft image appear?

R?

It should show up when you shut down.
That's what I thought. But for some strange reason, this ONE has always displayed the same (default) image for both startup & shutdown. I only just discovered, through poking around the file-system, that antitheft.bmp had a completely different green image which I'd never seen before!

Maybe if I renamed it to "suspend.bmp" ?

That might work, I can't remember what mine is named. I think I had to call it antitheft.bmp for it to work

Okay, get this: I changed the name from antitheft.bmp to suspend.bmp and NOW the shutdown graphic appears!

So, the firmware in this ONE expects splash/suspend, even tho it originally shipped with splash/antitheft? WTF?!

I can also report that if your shutdown graphic is missing, the unit will display splash.bmp, again.

I think it changed with one of the updates

Settings might affect shut down

I noticed the suspend.bmp as well. If you don't have warn when leaving vehicle option checked, it will not display the antitheft image, which is usually what is being changed or downloaded form TomTom home.

So suspend.bmp is displayed when option is not selected
and antitheft.bmp when it is.

I kept wondering why none of my images where displaying either on my Go

Very informative site and thread (all praise to those who use the internet).
I have a ONE XL and do not know the version. I updated to 8.010, am am using using 2.3.1.92 and all seems fine when I connect etc.

The PROBLEM is when I downloaded and added a new startup and a new shutdown image today the startup and shutdown stopped working. I have followed the advice on here and now I get the antitheft screen but thats all as a shutdown (default). Went into safety preferences after reading it here - thanks!!

Any ideas how I get the startup to work and suspend to work (never seen the suspend ever work). I changed the images to splash.bmp and suspend.bmp and dont see either.

The antitheft is antitheftw with no extension and works.

Any clues to get it all working again (have no idea what happened to it all as I was using the versions fine).

Thanks for this info works great, I spent 3 hours with customer service yesterday adding and removing applacation to try to fix the problem. you would think that they would know how to fix the problem since they work there.
