Auto on/off

Dear All,

I am hoping somebody can help me please.

I have a Tomtom One XL but also a Laguna with a rather good built in sat nav system. I don't use the XL anymore as a result of this, but I would like camera warning. Previously, I installed a standalone camera detector under the dashboard and provided this with a GPS signal from an external antenna. Trouble is that the device has poor updates, so I am looking at what else I can do.

The tomtom I have sitting around would be perfect, I would install it under the dash, screen off and update it using the tomtom camera database. Trouble is, my unit only has "auto off" and not "auto on" - which would mean I would need to firstly remember to turn it on every time I restart the car and secondly, reach down and press the button where my feet are.

So the question is, do any versions of the tomtom software now allow auto on/off? I don't mind about it being new or old (aslong as I can find it somewhere!) if it can run the camera database, I do not need it for mapping.

I look forward to your responses.

Thank you

That functionality was removed at least 2 years ago in an application 'update'.

Ok thanks, I've been playing about and bought 12 months of tomtom camera updates.

I have put on customised voices to warn me of cameras, fine, but it only lets me add a single warning for each type of camera. I am guessing that this is another limitation and that I can't split warnings between camera speed limits?

Thanks for your help.

With TomTom's speed cameras? Apparently not. To be honest those that have used TT's refer to them as 'junk' and that is being nice.

Many UK based users subscribe to the subscription database found at pocketgpsworld.com. More information can be found here

As far as I know, their database is accurate and current, two features nobody has ever accused TT's of being.

And, as a bonus, a SuperMod here, mikealder, is UK based and is a mod at that site as well. He can give more guidance.

I do know that specific warnings, which you seek, are possible with PGPSW's speed cameras.

Thanks, as it happened I had already gone ahead and subscribed after reading some of the comments on here. Seems like I like throwing away money today!

Put it in perspective....

One proper warning from the PGPSW speed cameras could save you a bunch of money in NOT getting a ticket that the misleading TT warnings might have resulted in....:p

The only issue is that I don't speed! I just like making things complicated. I do go to weird and wonderful places in the UK due to my job and that's the only reason I want something, for that second I might misread the road and limit. :)

Cheers for your help.
