540 TM update

I bought a 540 TM from Amazon.com & it arrived yesterday.
I started setting it up today. I installed TomTom Home & hooked the 540 up to my computer.
I started the updates. The update screen says it is updating a 530 S.
Is the 530 the same as a 540? The unit does not have a model number on it, so how do I tell what model the unit I have is?

Also this is the lifetime maps & traffic unit.
It came with a voucher for lifetime maps.
Should there have been a voucher for the lifetime traffic?

Welcome to TTF.

The unit will have a serial number. Look on the bottom for a silver bar code with a number.

The 530 is NOT a 540, the 530 doesn't have a 540's functionality regarding Advanced Lane Guidance.

You should make an Explorer, not Home, backup of the unit's contents prior to any updating.

And call support at 866-486-6866 to sort the issues regarding the misnaming of the unit, and how to activate the subscriptions.

I am not spending hours trying to make this thing work or faxing off information to verify what I bought.
It should work out of the box.
I thought TomTom was a quality company. I am returning this thing back to Amazon.
I should have taken the bad reviews as the truth.
