I suspect it will have very little, if any, impact on North American users. It was released because, for the 930 units being released now in Britain, there were NO British computer voices installed :)eek: ) and the 920 voice files are not compatible with 930 units. Further, the TTHome software did not work for the 930 units; hence, the new Home software.

and that didn't ship with the device? (sigh) TomTom gets an "F" for "Forethought!!"

Edit: Actually, that's not fair. I'm sure TomTom realized that a long time ago and has been engineering the fix for a long time. This revision to TomTom Home is just a little late.

I think it was installed, but is it version 2.3.0.32 for the Mac?

I have new icons and the banner, so I assume it's just a different number for Windows and Macs.

I ended up updating to 2.3 today, as a near-final step in resolving some issues I had. First, my 920 would not offer to connect to the computer upon power-up while docked (but would if powered on BEFORE docking). The fix was apparently updating the firmware from 7.22 to 7.481. I'm sure this wasn't the only way, but as with most support departments, why figure out what's really going on when you can just update instead?

Anyway, updating to 7.481 lost my US English Susan computer voice (my 920 told me that the selected voice was not available). The fix for this was apparently to remove and reinstall the voice via Home. Home kept choking on the file, saying that there was a file in the archive (voice file download) that didn't belong there. The apparent fix for this was to update to Home 2.3, where the voice file I downloaded was completely different than the one I get with Home 2.2.

The 2.2 version of the downloaded voice had 29 files, and the 2.3 version had 25 files. There was only ONE filename in common between the archives, and even those didn't have identical contents. It would seem that almost all of the files in the 2.2 archive didn't belong there.

I can confirm Home 2.3 still thinks that a Go 920 is a Go 720, and that the Itinerary Plannner is missing under "operate my go".

I have the problem you mentioned, but found more severe bugs with 7.481 like not being able to consistently look up POIs or street names. I decided to live with that one bug in 7.22 instead. :) 7.22 does work with TT Home 2.3.

Unfortunately for me, I'm too new to TomTom to feel comfortable going back to 7.22 via the methods I've seen posted, especially since I'd have to get it elsewhere because I never downloaded 7.22 in the first place.

When you say you can't consistently look up POIs or street names, are you referring to repeated attempts to lookup the same thing in 7.481, or are you comparing the ability to look up something specific in 7.481 with the same ability in 7.22? Is this something I could observer myself given that I only have access to 7.481?

I don't know which change I have made allows for this, but I can now use TomTom Traffic under "Operate my Go" with Home 2.3 and firmware 7.481, whereas I couldn't with Home 2.2 and firmware 7.22. I would hate to reverte to 7.22 at some point as lose that functionality.

Not very sure you made a mistake on model numbers: a GO920 or 930 (second sentence: my 930 told me...)? I know the 930 is slowly trickling down in distribution in Europe but have yet to read from someone here with one.

That was a mistake alright. It's definately a 920. If I leave that hanging out there too long people will start getting all worked up over a non-existant 930. :)
