Why do the Speed Camera updates need to be applied via MyDrive Connect?

Just wondering if your GPS unit is tethered to your mobile phone's internet data, why do you continually need to connect your laptop to download these small (approx 130KB) Speed Camera updates using MyDrive Connect?

Since there's always a small Speed Camera update every few days, you'd think that whilst the TomTom unit is synced via MyDrive, it would be able to automatically download these updates via the phone's mobile data?

Are you using the MyDrive app on your phone to make the connection?
If you instead use your phone as a Bluetooth tethering connection, do you see the updates available then? I don't normally use the phone app.
