Apologies, this may be a silly question, but I'll ask anyway!! If I buy a map for the US, do I also have to pay charges locally (i.e connection to 3G) or will the device work automatically once the map is loaded?

Many thanks
David

What device are you talking about? An iPhone or Android phone with the tomtom app?

A TomTom device (non LIVE) does not need 3G to work, just the relevant map installed.

A LIVE model in the UK will NOT have LIVE Services while in the States. Incompatible sim cards.

Either an iPhone or TomTom device
You will still be paying your phone company your normal monthly fee. There is no charge for map data download every time you plan a trip, because the entire map was downloaded initially.

FWIW, I downloaded the map using WiFi to avoid any chance of the phone company charging me for exceeding my monthly data plan, but that may or may not be relevant for your data plan.

With best wishes,
