TomTom Model(s)
TomTomXL
Good day.

I have a Tom Tom XL (serial number RQ5359A14842) it was purchased in 2010. It was wonderfull and we had many happy hour on the road together.

Life happened and I bought a car with satnav. I am going to say it was not better than "Mandy" but it was what I had and i only used the car satnav for average speed checking on the highway.

The car satnav was ,unsurprising, not reliable. It died completely and the manufacturers are just shrugging and telling me to buy an new car.

So Mandy got pulled out of her comfortable drawer and charged up.
I thought i was being smart and installed the Tom Tom home app so that I could update her and show her i still care about her.
The app connected.....
Loaded the South Africa maps.....
And said the file was not valid.

No worries, i will just use her as she was.
But now there are no maps loaded on her. none at all.
I went into the Tom Tom Home files and found the Zipped folder to extract as per this forum and........ there is no information in the folder. it is 0 bytes big.

now what?

Help please.

Hi.
Your RQ > XL 30 series, 1 GB, is no longer monitored by Tomtom so on your computer you must have a backup to reinstall.

It is no longer useful to connect to Tomtom Home.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Would the computer have made a backup automatically or is it something i should have done?

Because i didnt know to, and did not, so i dont have a backup.

Ummmmm

Look on your computer in > documents > Tomtom folder you must have a complete backup of the Tomtom > click Home > click internal or backup.

DOCUMENTS/TOMTOMUPGRADE/HOME/BACKUP.
Folder is empty.
Fromdevice and sharing folders are empty too.
Only one that has anything is the download folder.
There is a complete and temp folder. The complete eventually ends up at the south africa maps folder that is empty.

I can get onto the device and see the files there if it helps?

If you no longer have a backup on the computer you will not be able to operate your GPS again.

What format is the maps file in? I am downloading all the files from the unit to my hard drive.
I am going to try and find the file on the unit.
Do you know where I may be able to look for the old maps files on the internet?
If I found someone with a similar unit, will I be able to copy their file and install it on my unit?
I am hoping to continue using it, it would be a pity to toss it in the trash.

Thanks

Sorry but maps are restricted to the device first purchased with. You can't share between devices.
