tomtom go 710 not turning on

is it possible that a battery that is completely exhausted and wont charge anymore can prevent the unit from working ? even though it is connected with either the mains charger at home or the car charger in the car ?....my sons tomtom unit is having this problem...the battery doesnt seem to be getting charged even though its been left on the mains charger all night..the battery indicator stays on the minimum level and is red...when it should be green to indicate that its charging...or is it time for a new battery ?...cheers

ok, cheers...hmm changed the battery lol, still didnt work...so i binned the damm thing.....
