Speed warning with no 'route'

Hi chaps, if I want to use TT without a route being set (ie I hit 'clear route') so that I can drive along a route I know without listening to directions - but - I still want to be warned about speed cameras - this doesn't seem to be possible or I haven't found the correct button ... any ideas welcome .. If you are referring to a PND, then you've posted in the wrong forum. And what model do you have?
