TomTom Model(s)
NAV 4 VH. GO50 UK version
Hello,

I want to plan my own route using my Tom Tom GO50 device. The routes which are suggested do not offer me my preferred route. I like to use my own route, on a particular journey, because I find the last few miles much easier to drive than on any of the suggested routes. Please advise how I can set the start point and the finishing point but tell the SAT NAV that I want to travel along a particular road for a part of the journey.

If I understand correctly, I can set my own route by using My Drive but I did not want to have to go to this length for a very short trip. However, I do accept that this may be the only option.

I am grateful for the advice of those much more experienced than me in using the GO50.

Many thanks

David

Hi

If you don't want to use Mydrive
On your GPS you can add stops to your route to force it to go where you want.

What I am unclear about is, if you know the route well enough to prefer it then why do you need the TomTom for what is, by your own admission, a very short trip.

After all it is possible to drive a regular route without the use of a Sat Nav, they are not compulsory.

Nowhere in the OP's post does it say that this is a short journey, only that there is a preference for how to navigate the last few miles of it.

My wife used to ask me all the time why I needed to use a GPS when I already knew where I was going. After several trips where the 'normal' route would have taken us into horrendous traffic jams, and the TomTom was able to steer clear of these to avoid long delays, she finally began to understand. The 'known' route isn't always the best one.

Sorry but the OP does say he doesn't want to use MyDrive for a very short trip.

I follow the logic about traffic problems but that also requires a willingness to use an alternative proffered route which the OP says he would rather not use.

You can set waypoints as part of the route on the device to force the last bit, and this still allows the routing engine to deal with traffic. "Short" is relative. If the tail end of the trip is "the last few miles", I suspect "short" could easily amount to a dozen or more, and if the OP has a preference, it may not be a trivial route.

I only mentioned traffic at all in response to "After all it is possible to drive a regular route without the use of a Sat Nav, they are not compulsory." Traffic issue would be the practical reason to use the nav even for a 'regular route'.

Or even click a point on the device's map and "Add to route".

You can build an entire itinerary on the device, working from the last stop backwards. Odd, but that's how it works. Counterintuitive, if you ask me.
