I was just informed by TOM TOM tech support that a new application will be available soon. The down fall is when you download it you will no longer have the icons for buddy finder and text messaging because TOM TOM will no longer support them. Tech support also informed me that some models currently being produced will not have the above icons & features. The only way to keep the above icons & features is not to download any new applications. I was looking forward in changing phone carriers to be able to use those functions. I would of of probably changed my mind spending what I did if myself and others had been informed of this future change.

I don't know how much I would trust what you were told. Many people use the service for traffic since FM traffic isn't available everywhere.

He didn't mention traffic or "all Plus services". Only buddy finder and text messaging. Granted, don't believe all you hear, but I can believe those two would go away.

Traffic & Weather will still be available. Buddy finder & Text messaging are the only two they are going to eliminate. I called a second time to tech support and it was confirmed by a different Representative. Sorry to be a bearer of bad news.

Thanx for the update. i think those features are probably rarely used, which is why they decided to get rid of them. They couldn't survive I don't think if they got rid of traffic.

I can se dumping buddies as I doubt many use it but I don't understand dumping text messages at least reading them and simple yes/no answers.
Then my V710 can't pass them to my Go920 anyway.

Interesting.

Think I saw somewhere that TomTom did not want to facilitate users' being able to text **while driving**. Seems to me that their lawyers are getting into the act since more and more users are in North America, home of 'ambulance chasers';)

My thought as well.

Not that any of us EVER operate our TomToms while driving, right??? :)

Then take out the sending part and keep the reading part but only with text to speech. Don't allow one to open up a "Reading" windows when at speed. Heck, we can do this now with traffic why not leave it for received messages.

Leaving the txt to speech for SMS (txt messaging) will not prevent the user to reply via his/her phone, therefore TT can still get sued for this. By removing this function completely, TT will be tottaly out of the picture if ever there are accidents caused due to txt messaging while driving.

Regarding having the text message read to you, but no response option; this brings to mind one of my common thoughts. Why text? CALL!

I'm a network administrator and I have my servers and other network systems send me alerts via SMS. If I'm going down the freeway and a alert come in I'd really like the TT to read it to me rather than having to grab my phone and read it.

I don't think if the TT reads a message to you and you then pick up your cell phone and start texting TT would be liable. They in no way enabled you to send the message.
