TomTom Model(s)
740 and via 130
Hello charged my TomTom 740 after leaving it in a draw for some years. started up like a dream. I thought, i know lets update it on tomtom home. updates were offered for the 740 by tomtom home which i downloaded. this has resulted in a "no maps found" message on the device and a perfectly good unit now bricked. went on tomtom support chat who said sorry about that, no support whatsoever offered on a 740, but would i like 30% off a new unit? no not really! I want my unit up and working. is there any way to get this unit back up and working? yes, i know its old but it worked perfectly and i don't want to send it to landfill. I have tried removing the maps off the device and PC as well as the application off both. i have tried factory resetting the unit. i get the black DOS screen but the power button is soft and pressing it 3 times to reset it is proving difficult as it does not give clear clicks
I also wanted to say that i get the message item not valid after installation europe on tomtom home. if the unit is obsolete, then why when i went on the tomtom home app did it offer updates to the map? which has resulted in a dead unit.
.....grateful for all advice Dave

TomTom stopped supporting your 740 model a long time ago.

To get it working again on your computer, you need to have a full backup of your GPS.
You then copy and paste that backup onto the GPS.

Thanks for the reply Willy,
it looks like i am sunk then! I don't have a back up because I changed computers years ago where the back up once was and didnt think to do any back up when tomtom offered me updates as soon as i opened the tomtom home app yesterday. Not for a moment did i think the updates would kill the unit off. had i not downloaded the updates, i would still have a working albeit old sat nav unit. all i have now is a door stop ready for landfill. thanks again Dave
