TomTom Model(s)
GO400
This device was working perfectly this morning. Got home, plugged into my Windows computer and ran the Tomtom software. Logged in and started a Europe map upgrade. The usual wait forever for it to download, and then eventually the GO400 device reboots and its screen advises No Maps Available. Tomtom software states no SD card, but there is one installed, a 32GB. It works perfectly if I plug it in via a USB port on the computer. Tried a different card, same result.

Is this now a bin job, as I can see no way to do a total reset on the GO400...

Yes, we also offer that link here:

@Spartan200

I would recommend that you do a 'full' FAT32 format of your uSD card using your PC, then reinstall it into your GO 400. Your 400 should suggest that you allow the device to format the card for either 'routes' or 'maps'. Select maps, of course.

Then see what MyDrive Connect says about the presence of the uSD card, and if the result positive, take a crack at the procedure mentioned above.

Thank you for offering help. I am currently formatting the SD card in the Windows computer, and will keep you updated once that's complete and I've had another go at downloading and installing the Europe map. Just prior to commencing formatting, the Tomtom site stated that my Europe map was corrupted, and offered a repair button. Didn't work. Got as far as 4% install, then said there was a problem! I am also awaiting delivery of a new 32 GB SD card so I can try that as well. Will keep you posted.

Ok, so I found a section that's headed 'Free up space on your device'. The only entry shows 'Europe' and states the size is 8140 MB, but I cannot highlight it, and the 'Delete selected' button is greyed out.

I found another 32 GB Micro SD card, but I'm guessing it's not the right 'class' of card as it isn't recognised when it's plugged into the GO 400. It's a class 6, whereas the one I was using successfully up until yesterday was a class 10. The new one I ordered stated that it was specifically for the Tomtom GO 400, so it'll be interesting to see what class that is...

Class 6 is OK but did you do the full FAT 32 format in the PC before inserting it into the GPS.

The Class 6 card I found yesterday was perfectly readable on the Windows 11 laptop. However, after running a full FAT32 format it got to 99% and came up with an error! Tried CHKDSK and DISKPART commands but no joy. That card now completely FUBAR ! Ah, but just found another different card which is Class 10. Again, works perfectly in Windows, but not recognised when plugged into the GO 400. I'm reluctant to try formatting this one as this process strangely appears to 'damage' the card. But I don't understand why the Tomtom won't even recognise that a card is inserted, albeit it might be full of unwanted data.

So that your SD card is recognized by your GPS
your GPS must format the SD you must select map to install maps.

Did you?

No, am not able to do that. The basic GO 400 has insufficient space to install the Europe map in its in-built storage. That is why I have added an SD card. However, this latest SD card is not recognised by the GO 400. How do I make the satnav recognise that the card is plugged in and ready to be formatted?

The Tomtom software on the PC shows addtional memory card greyed out, which I'm assuming means the GO 400 device and the computer do not recognise or acknowledge the card is inserted. Clicking on installing the map produces the message 'Not enough Storage'.

If your GPS does not prompt you to format the SD, either your SD or your GPS has a problem.

What you can do is buy a new SD card and insert it into the GPS to format it.

Yes, just put in a brand new Kingston Class 10 card that arrived this morning, but the GO 400 does not recognise it. It's really strange that it recognises the old card which has the corrupted map on it, but not any of the other cards. Guess it really is a bin job now...

Thanks to all for your help and efforts.

To try
remove the SD from the GPS then try to select a smaller map area that can fit on the internal memory of the GPS.

I don't think any other maps are available for the GO 400, unless I actually pay for them. Since something appears to be wrong with this device, I think I'd be throwing good money after bad! Thanks for the suggestion anyway...
