No North up android auto

Hi guys...I'm new to the forum
I've just recently purchased a new car with android auto.
As a long term Tomtom user I decided to use the tomtom go app with android auto.
Everything works OK but I cannot get the map to display so that the North is always pointing up, even if I set it as such in the app settings...am I missing something here.

Try tapping the compass symbol which gives various options as you “scroll” through.
