Rider 450
Hi, I have a Tomtom Rider 450 since 2017 working pretty well (very slow). I have been proposed to upgrade the firmware to NAV4 version 19 a few years ago. Then, the device became very unstable, rebooting randomly up to once a minute. I also tried version 19 and 20, and the device was very unstable also with these versions. I was successful in doing a hard reset and re-installed version 18. Then the device became stable again.

Recently, I was proposed (forced) by Tomtom to upgrade to version 22, because I had no more access to Tomtom Services from the device. I upgraded to version 22, and the device became very unstable again. Unfortunately, it seems that version 18 is not available anymore.

Has somebody experienced instability on Rider 450 since version 19, and has a tip for fixing this instability ?have you a tip for re-installing version 18?

Thank you, Stephane

Even in the 'old days' with an open file system, it was often impossible to go backwards to a previous version of code. That's because not only the device's nav firmware changed, but the underlying operating system / bootloader would change along with it, and there were often reverse compatibility issues.

For these newer devices, apart from 'recovery mode', there's no way to revert to an older code version apart from having access to hardware that would allow you to completely reflash the device to a previous version. I've never seen that outside of the TomTom offices.

As for your frequent reboots, have you tried shutting down all connectivity for your 450 (no WiFi, no Bluetooth) to see if the reboots cease while in that state? Would be interested in hearing your response to this.

Hi Canderson, thank you very much for your quick feedback !
I'm not sure how I can "shut down" Connectivity ie BlueTooth. I disconnected the TT from my mobile BlueTooth, and it gets more stable.
But if I connect the TT on my computer, then connectivity is set through the computer, and the TT gets very unstable again.
I could manage without connectivity, but how can I then update routes and places ?

I have a similar problem with one of my Nav4 devices. I don't ever pair it using Bluetooth, and instead use WiFi, but connect to the TT cloud just long enough to get new route or POI info from the TT cloud, then select "Stop Syncing" when I have the data I need. I let the WiFi run to get traffic using my phone as a WiFi hotspot.

I find it quite stable that way.

The problem seems to occur only when I let the device stay connected to the TT cloud. Have been complaining about this for a very long time, and TT still has an open case, but I don't think they even have what we used to call a 'sustaining engineering group' anymore.
