Hello. i'm 14 years old and I love navigators but I have a problem. I have an Tomtom Bridge navigation but my maps are removed after a software update. If I would install new maps via the software update it can only with wifi and not via an sd card. The software update has an size of 14.75 GB. It doesn't fit on my device beacause the device is only 16 gb and not 32gb. Maybe someone can help me.
Sorry for popping in a day late. Holiday planning and all that...
Curious -- where did you get a Bridge unit? They're not very common. Are you the original owner?
I am probably the only one here with any experience with the Bridge devices - have 3 of them - and will try to assist.
First, I need to know whether your device is still connected to TomTom or whether it's connected to Bridgestone for updates. When you boot it up, does it say "TomTom" or "Webfleet"? Knowing this will determine what alternatives are available if we get into serious trouble with the update.
@Willy875
What's being offered to the OP for download is the full Europe map, not a simple firmware update. Installing a "smaller map" isn't an option. The Bridge updates are provided so as to match whatever exists on the device already. The update offered will be either the truck or non-truck version (depending upon which of those is already loaded on the device) of the full existing map set on the device. You don't have the option to select a different download. You get what's being offered. From what I see, this is a full 'non-truck' Europe map version that is being offered.

One alternative is to strip out any unnecessary content from your Bridge to see if you can make enough space, though with the update at 14.77GB, it will be very tight no matter what we do. As you probably already know, it is a 'partly' open architecture, with the directory structure visible from your PC when you connect it. It is necessary to go to the little 'systray' in the bottom right corner, tap it, and when the options come up, select "USB for charging", then when the menu comes up, select instead "File transfers". The device will reconnect to your PC, and you should see it show up as a storage device on your PC as "TomTom Bridge" or similar. Opening that will show "Internal storage". Select that.
From here, you can see all of the visible part of the file system. Make sure that all of the following folders are empty of any content. Don't delete any folders or subfolders, just any content that may be found in them. Sorry if you'd saved something in any of these, but we're going to need the space. If anything looks peculiar while you are doing this, report back first. These folders may or may not all exist in your device:
- .RecycleBin/.file
- ACRA
- Android/data/com.android.browser/files
- DCIM (will only have files if your Bridge model has a camera)
- Download
- locations
- Movies
- Music
- Notifications
- navkit_tombstones
- Pictures
- Podcasts
- Ringtones
- usr
I should also ask if you've by any chance loaded any other Android apps (via *.apk or whatever method) to this device. These may also be using up significant amounts of valuable space.
Now, I'd be curious if you'd provide information that is in the update-locations file that you should find in the root directory. Open that with your favorite text editor, and please copy/paste the content here. It will likely be something as simple as this example:
{
"schema": "2",
"files": [
{ "file": "package-list.system" },
{ "file": "package-list.content.north-america" }
]
}
Now, on the device itself, select "Menu" / "Settings" / "Maps"
Please take a pic of what you find there, and post it.
These last two will tell us what update should actually be expected for your device.
Last, go to the Android device Settings, and click "Storage / USB" and advise what it says about "xx.xxGB Used of yy.yyGB".
