I can't get my GO BASIC into recovery

I need to do a recovery on my GO BASIC. I got an instruction from TomTom support on how to do it but it does not work. I hold down the power button but I will never reach the black screen with white text. A couple of times the screen just flickered for less than a second.

Anu idea what to do?

What happened after the screen flickered? How much charge is on the battery?
