On GPS Lodge it was said that the IPhone 1.3 application upgrade will have High Definition traffic. If they truly said this can high definition traffic will possibly be available to the new tomtom units that are soon going to be released. What does everyone think about this possibility.

The HDTraffic could work on x20/x30 models, too. It's just business/marketing/licensing issues that caused Tomtom to cripple the traffic potential on those models.

Tomtom announced that the iPhone app will have HD traffic only in certain countries in Europe, Tomtom's American press release said it will include "TomTom Traffic for real-time traffic speed and incident reports" but no confirmation from them if it's the x30 low-end traffic or x40 high end traffic.

Tomtom said last summer that they are in discussions to offer HD traffic in the US, so far no other news. In the last financial call, they said the US consumer is 18 months behind the Europe consumer, with the wave of second PND upgrade purchases just beginning. We're closing in on 18 months after the UK HD launch, so maybe something's coming.

My personal guess is that Vodafone has patents/ip in HD traffic all locked up. So I'd guess the earliest we'd see it is something like a GO x60 with LTE support on the Verizon network.
