Hands Free Mic question tt910

After a couple of weeks of people complaining about the echo using the hands free i decided to play with the microphone, only to find out it was still using the internal tt mic. The mic is hooked up to the correct jack and there are no cuts in the mic cable. For some reason it just utilizes the internal mic. I have looked at the speaker preferences and the hands free setup to no avail. Any assistance is appreciated.

How did you determine you were using the internal mic?

covered the mic and put it under the seat and the reception was still the same. Not extremely scientific but should have noticed a difference. maybe just a defective mic.

Other than making sure that it's plugged in all the way and in the correct port. Which should be this one.
