Connect to Gps help?!

Hey guys when i try to navigate to a location my screen turns grey, and on top it says connect to gps. I have an iphone 4 by the way. I just dont get how you connect to the gps.
 
Perhaps you don't have a strong enough signal from your wireless provider? Try it again at a stronger signal location.
