Out of the box my 930 had no computer voice installed (insufficient memory?).
I got "Susan" through HOME and it shows in Explorer to be on the device (in HOME, under Location, it says "My Computer").

Voice preference > Change voice will only show the ones in the L:\voices folder (the .tlv, .vif and .chk triplets) not Susan who's files are under the L:\LoquendoTTS folder.

Any suggestions as to what I must do to get the computer voice amongst the options?

When Home says it's on "My Computer" it has not yet loaded to the TomTom, just downloaded from the source.

The old home version used to let you "load items to my tomtom", but I'm not sure how to do it through home now. I think you do it through "add Maps and voices"

I loaded voiced by copying directly to the correct folder via Windows Explorer.

That is doubtful as HOME also reports the Location for my NA and W+CE maps as "My Computer". The files are sitting in zipped form on my HDD at Home\FromDevice

In any case, the files are on the TomTom Internal Device, just as the voices in the Voice folder.

Is the 'Add' button in HOME highlighted? If so click it.
Yes, it is. After clicking on it the voice got "Installed" and the [Add] button disappeared. After installing clicked the [Done] button and then went to Operate my GO.
Under Voice preference > Change voice nothing has changed. The computer voice Susan does not show.
Shut off the 930 and switched it on again. No change. Doesn't even appear greyed out.
Checking through HOME for computer voices, the [Add] button has reappeared.

I had concentrated and replied to the first line in your post.
I should have paid attention to the last line.
Which one is your correct folder. Is it under Loquendo, as I show in post # 7 ?

Here is the location in mine: G:\LoquendoTTS\EnglishUs\Susan

Notice it is NOT in a subfolder called voices. That folder in mine is in the root of the unit and would contain NON computer voices, if installed on my unit (which they are not).

If I were you, I'd first make a backup of your unit using Explorer (you know about hidden folders/files, etc...). I'd then use Explorer to move Susan folder out of voices and make it a subfolder of EnglishUS. I'd then move the voices folder and make it a folder in the root of the unit (in other words, NOT a subfolder of Loquendo ... it simply doesn't belong there.)

See what happens now (you may need a pin reset).

My 930 internal folder structure is different from yours:

I have tried about 12 kinds of permutations, including making Voices\Susan a sub folder of English and eliminating the regular Voices folder, putting Voices\Susan in its place as well as putting Susan directly under Loquendo.

I wonder of anyone with a 930 and Susan voice working could either post a screen print here or sent it to me directly via (e-mail address removed)
Thank you.

As I said, my Susan is directly under EnglishUS. I have NO voices folder under Loquendo whatsoever. Since Loquendo represents the company TT licences its computer voices from and Voices holds non-computer voices, I don't think Voices has any business being a subfolder of Loquendo.

Have you tried the Loquendo\EnglishUS\Susan permutation?

Yes, I have, after renaming the English folder to EnglishUS, just in case there was an internal referral to that spelling.
The four files in the English folder are
EnglishUs.gpr
EnglishUsTT.tex
EnglishUs.lde
EnglishUs.dbl

I have also tried removing the LoquendoTTS\voices folder as well as the TT\voices which contain the ones that can be accessed via the Voice preferences option.

I will now raise this matter as a Support Question and not continue in the list unless someone with a 930 and Susan audible chimes in here.

After Support questions, the final recommendation was
1.) Soft Reset (button)
2.) Hard Reset (Reset factory settings [Preferences, screen 8])
3.) Download Flash Tool and flash at least 3 times.
(surprised as it is labeled for the HDDs ttgo510-710.clear_flash.exe)

Last night, after a complete copy to HDD I did # 3, to no avail. Still no computer voice.

Called support this morning. After about 2 minutes of reading the total of 4 questions, she told me to go HOME > Add, Maps, Traffic, Voices, etc. > Items on my computer > Applications and [ ADD ] NavCor 8.010 (which is listed as "This item is stored on your computer).

After the 20 minute download, Disconnect device, Change preferences > Voice preferences > Change voice

Amongst the voices I now had 'Susan' computer (voice) as an option!

Great.

I then received an eMail from Support saying that this incidence has been solved. Pity that they ended it with:

And now that you have "Susan", I hope she does not drive you crazy with her pronunciations (unless she has been updated on your version). She has a hard time with city names here in California - especially Spanish origin names.

Well, she do.

(unless she has been updated on your version). She has a hard time with city names here in California - especially Spanish origin names.
Well, that applies to a good 95 % of Americans, don't it !

Anywho, just downloaded Kate again and found that the 930 has no problems at all with having installed and selecting between two computer voices.

Thank you for your reply with suggestions.

All previous tries were made with a single computer voice (Susan) only. One hour before fileing the above question I tried I downloaded the second voice (see attachment # 2).

I will not be able to try your recommendations until the end of this week. I will report my results.
Thank you,
Arno

Dear Arno,

Thank you for taking the time to contact TomTom Customer Support regarding the computer voice on the TomTom unit. My name is YYYYYY and it is my goal to provide you with an exceptional customer experience. We are always happy to help. We understand the frustration such an issue might cause.

The TomTom units can only have one computerized voice on them at a time. If you have both Susan and Kate installed you will need to remove one of them. There are also a few troubleshooting steps that you can try as well.

1. Perform a soft reset. This is used to help reboot the unit. You will not loose any information. For your convenience, we have provided the direct link down below, that will guide you through performing a soft reset:

http://www.tomtom.com/support/index.php?FID=7134&Lid=4

2. Perform a hard reset. This step will bring the unit back to the original condition, just like when you took it out of the box.
- Switch on the unit
- Go into menu settings page 1 on the device
- Go to 'Change Preferences'
- Go to the last screen and select 'Reset Factory Settings'
- Select 'Yes' (By performing this hard reset, you will lose any favorites or destinations that you have saved, so make sure you do a back up of your unit)

3. We recommend that you connect your unit and download any updates. Updates are crucial for the unit. Most of the time just by performing updates, can clear up a lot of software issues.

4. One other thing you can try is what is called a clear flash tool, what this does is send a quick flash directly on the TomTom , and sometimes clears any glitches. Down below is the website that will show you how to install the clear flash tool. We ask that you run this at lest 2 to 3 times.

Hope this helps, if you are still experiencing the same problems, we ask that at this time you please call in and speak one of our technicians one on one. Over the phone we will be able to give some additional steps. When calling in, we ask that you have your unit, a USB cable, and be ready to connect to the computer.

If you have any further questions or comments, please email or call us at 866-486-6866 Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM until 7:00 PM EST. Thanks again for writing. At TomTom we believe in showing you the way the easy way.

With Best Regards,

YYYYYY
