i have searched high and low but cant find an answer.
is it possible to connect a reversing camera to a "one XL" to use it as a monitor

Negative. There is no RS-170 camera input on any TomTom (nor any way to process it) with the exception of certain of the 7" "Bridge" models. Retail on these, however, runs in the neighborhood of £480.

I suspect that the reason that the Bridge units have this feature is because the unit is designed around a tablet where the additional input wasn't much of a design hit since it already includes an internal camera that has RS170 conversion.
