Can I download the newest application with an old map installed? i have a map that is over a 1 year old.

It doesn't matter if you have an older map installed. You can always use the latest application update for your device if you wish. The latest maps will require the latest navcore, but the latest navcore does not require the latest maps.

Application

I downloaded it already, but it must have went to my SD card. It is hard to explain. Now OPerate my go is all greyed out, and so is Backup and restore. When I take the SD card out everything is fine. When I put the SD card back in it shows my map with the newest application, but TomTom Home is what is messed up.

Connect to the computer. Start Home. When it asks what storage medium, select the external (sd). Use Home to move to Remove items from my unit. Should see the application (click 'more info' to confirm it's 8.35). Select it. Don't worry about the warning.

Now, Home's menu...Device-->Switch device. Select Internal. Use Home to select 'Items on My Computer'. Should see the application (again, click 'more info' to make sure it's the correct one). Click on Add and Install.

The app should now install on Internal.

Unless you are considering updating the map to the latest standard then I see no point in running any Navcore other than 8,010 with this you have the full FM Tx capability and none of the issues associated with 8,3 (stammering) or 8,350 (reduced audio levels).
Choice is yours, the new application really needs a new map to make use of the new software for the IQ Routes and other features so unless you intend upgrading the map go back to using Navcore 8,010 - Mike

I have Hard drive listed twice for my internal and external!

Disconnect the unit PROPERLY from the computer.

Do a pin reset.

Restart the unit and dock it. Start Home. Does it still show 2 hard drives?

Mine did this at first. I quit home...disconnected the device properly. Reconnected the device started home and it was back to normal. My only problem has been with Tripmaster...it keeps flashing the screen on and off...but that is another topic.

I really don't see where it says what version it is!

Yes! I did a pin reset with the unit off. is that right?

Should be, you can try with the unit on. Also, you may consider uninstalling and reinstalling Home.

Again, the sequence should be: power up the unit, connect to pc and THEN start Home. Is that what you are doing?

I removed app 8.35 from my SD card, and it still shows up with my map. I didn't install on internal memory. How it does it show up with my map when my map is on internal and 8.35 was on my SD card. I take my SD card out, and my other app shows up.

TomTom code works such that it boots to the memory location where it detects the operating system. It first looks to see if the o/s in othe sd card; if so, it boots there and loads that app found there. If you've truly removed all loose files from the sd card, and when you tap the satellite bars, it shows version 8.350 on the next screen, then you have that version loaded in internal memory.

What do you mean by loose files exactly? I checked my internal memory and 8.35 is not listed in there.

When you use Explorer to look at the contents of your unit, you'll see a bunch of folders (with stuff in them) and a bunch of FILES, not in any folders. These are what are referred to as loose files. If your unit is showing version 8.35 when you tap the satellite bars, then that is the application version installed on your unit.

When I tap the satellite bars without the SD card inserted I am using version 8,010, but with the card inserted I am using version 8.35. I want to permanently remove version 8.35 from my Sd card. That apparently is why my backup and restore, and OPerate my go are all greyed out!. OPerate my Go works in version 8.010, but it looks like a Kindergarten kid painted the map. The colores are run together, and it is like glow in the dark image.

That means some application files are still on the SD. HOME doesn't always do a great job of clearing out items. You can always just delete all files on the SD card manually with windows explorer. Leave whatever folders you deliberately want to keep (mp3, "North America 2GB" maps, etc).

Of course back up all files first, especially map folders since you have to pay for them if they're lost.

The only map I have is on the internal memory. Then it should be safe to delete everything else?
