720 and Blackberry

I can not receive messages through my 720. The bluetooth featue is working well, can make and receive calls with no problem. Every time I try to set up the message receiving mt 720 turns off the bluetooth connection on my blackberry. After a minute or so it returns the message the connection has failed. If the 720 turns off the bluetooth how can it ever make the connection to receive messages? After it fails doing so, it turns my blackberry back on. Seems strange to me.
