un-needed files

OK I got my ONE yesterday and it is cool.

The first thing I did was to copy the SD card's contents to my laptop's hard drive and burned it to a DVD. Then I put it in the ONE and started it up. Connected to home and did another backup. I am safe there

Being the geek I am I have to "tweak" it. I have already downloaded POIs and voices etc... . I then deleted the Guam map. I do not think I'll get there soon

To my question. What else can I get rid of to free space? here is the directory listing.

Where on earth did you get it from??

All those .mac files show the maps that have been activated, 33 by my count.

You also have a contacts directory, this can't be used by the ONE AFAIK. I think it must have been copied from another device. Weird!

I get it now, you have several tomtoms right?

Maybe this is a refurb unit and the previous owner had pirate copies of all of these maps. Can you imagine anyone actually going to all these places, not to mention how much purchasing them all would cost?

Even if you erase these .mac files, they come right back, so they are buried in the flash memory. I suggest using the ClearFlash tool mentioned on this forum for clearing them out.

Other than that, the biggest space saver is to erase all of the voices that you never intend to use. You can do this with the Home program.

The flash tool got rid of those "extra" files.

Yes. A so-called city map. These were/are useful for people visiting somewhere, that don't want to buy an entire region map. I don't think it will contain any more detail than your US map.

Did you check out the contact dir? I am pretty sure that you can delete that, as there is no handsfree calling function on the ONE. Hence, no need for phone contacts.

Maybe an "Open Box" return that someone was hacking with and returned. I wouldn't think a TomTom Refurb would have all that junk on it.....
