TomTom reliability

I just received my first TomTom XL350.. loving it... question is at the store i was offered a warranty package for three years... could anyone tell me on reliable the XL350 or the TomTom hardware is..??

Notwithstanding the battery probably won't last 3 years (and is not easily changeable), I suspect any gps unit available today will be obsolete in 3 years regarding technology available on units then.

It's a disposable society, I guess...........
