My son will be taking his laptop. Should I load the TomTom CD onto his laptop so I can update the 630 during the 8 day trip?
Over the last month, when I update here I have rec'd only one tiny update for IRE.

Also, while google map found the township I'm staying in Ballyherkin Upper. TomTom gets me only to Nohoval, Co Cork.

Thanks

What version of the Ireland map do you plan to use on the 630? (The latest is 845).

You wouldn't nned the TT CD I would think, just install Home on the notebook if you want to make updates to the Ireland map with things like mapshares, adding favourites, etc.

My map is 845.2645.

I mentioned the CD because I won't see my son or his pc until we meet at JFK. I assume he can't load "Home" without the CD. Or can he get it on the 'net.
Thanks for your reply

Can you copy and paste this link:
TomTom, portable GPS car navigation systems - Support home - Select your product

in an email you can send him. That'll get him to the page where you can download Home at TomTom.

or simply to go tomtom.com for the US site, click on the support menu item at the top of the page and you should find the first support question listed there, when clicked, gets you to the same location.

In 2008 I got a 930 and spent 3 weeks in the UK and Eire.
I would not bother to use a compbuter to connect to HOME during such a short stay.

I would however highly recommend you make a Custom POI category for your trip and put POIs in there for all the places you want to visit.
After you made the POIs, use coordinates or point on map for Ballyherkin Upper, open them in TYRE and Rename them to something meaningful (there are several blow-by-blow instructions in this forum, make a search).
You can even use Nohoval for that POI, rename it with TYRE and Edit the coordinates by using the Google map and drag the pointer to exactly where you want it.

You can use the device for months without connecting to Home, in fact some owners won't have connected to Home ever since purchasing their device, it will still work fine, in the case of certain models it will work better if its never seen any upgrades - Mike
