TomTom Model(s)
start 20
Hi, I was able to update the Navi for Firmware and so on, but every time I try to update the Maps, If got a message that a Error had occurred, and more Information will be available on the PC, but there is no additive information. The extended Log shows some messages linked with errors, but this is may to much to post here.
I've reset the Navi, reinstalled the Connect app, used other ports and so on... The message unfortunately stay.

Support message is not answered currently, so I try it here ;)
Some ideas?
BR

Your model as 4GB of memory, so it should be able to hold a larger map.

You say that the 'extended log' shows some messages ... are you talking about the file c:/users/{you}/AppData/Local/TomTom/HOME3/cache/cache-status.xml ? If you will delete that file and try again to download a map, the file will contain only the information for the attempted map download and won't be so big. Then we can look at what has failed and perhaps get an idea.

If you are talking about some other "extended log", please tell us which/where you have found this.

Hi

Your Start 20 does not have a lifetime free card
bought a map from tomtom website to update it.

I am assuming that there is a reason that the OP is attempting to do a 'map update' of some kind. The old MapShare update option no longer appears on the MyDrive Connect screen (not since last February), so there must be something else on the screen that makes the OP think there is a possibility to update. He may already have a subscription and is trying to download the quarterly update. We need more information from the OP.

@masterplexus
Can you take a screen shot of the MyDrive Connect screen where it shows that you should attempt to perform a map update?

Hi, Thanks for your replys.

I've got the TomTom from someone, which does not know what to do.
I try to answer the questions:
  • Extended log writes things more extensively in the path:
    C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\TomTom\HOME3\Logs\log.txt

  • The file is currently 1,7 MB size, that's the reason why I thought its may too much.

  • MyDrive connect Shows there is an Map update available where I can Click on Update. No message that I have to buy something. Also not in the error message. See screenshot 1+2+3. I would understand it, if the Tool will explain it in that case, but it does not.

  • In the cache status the following lines are visible:
<url index="38" href="http://download.tomtom.com/nav3/890/nav3/Central_Europe.ttpkg" percentage="0" contentLength="10" cacheLength="0" statusCode="404" timestamp="1672347504" validationMandatory="false" downloadSuspended="false">
<md5 percentage="0" contentLength="10" cacheLength="0" statusCode="404" md5checked="false" computedMd5Hex=""/>
<muid type="ODS">APxxxxx</muid>
</url>

Of Corse if the way will be to buy an update, then I would like to understand why I can not do it with connect,and why Connect don't tell me that I have to do...

Solet me know your thoghts, thanks,
BR

Wow ... it looks like you have map 8.65 on your device. That dates back to 2011!

The good news -- your "AP" device has enough (4GB) memory that TomTom is still willing to sell you a new map. The Start 20 "AO" version has been declared obsolete because it has only 2GB of internal memory.

Still, it is strange the way MyDrive Connect offered/failed instead of recommending to you the page for map purchase.

I have some doubts what to do, if I Purchase an update, but the error remains... For me the error is really not transparent.
Anyhow thanks for your thoughts.

1.7MB update can only be map share update since 2022 MapShare update support is discontinued.

Thanks, but what does that mean? could you explain may more in detail what this mean linked to my non existing deteiled Error?

That 1.7MB refers to the size of his log file, not the size of the update. He didn't want to dump that huge log file on us here.

I see the old Central Europe map being 1836MB and the new (evidently offered incorrectly) map being 1996MB, all of which makes sense.
@masterplexus

Please check instead not the HOME3/Logs/Log.txt file (that is the log only for the operation of MyDrive Connect itself), but rather, the HOME3/cache/cachestatus.xml file (the log that shows download attempts for map and other updates)

If that file is huge, you can delete it and try the update again which will create a small log of that attempt. Then you show us the small cachestatus.xml file.

Hi, this is the main content in it,as written above:
<url index="38" href="http://download.tomtom.com/nav3/890/nav3/Central_Europe.ttpkg" percentage="0" contentLength="10" cacheLength="0" statusCode="404" timestamp="1672347504" validationMandatory="false" downloadSuspended="false">
<md5 percentage="0" contentLength="10" cacheLength="0" statusCode="404" md5checked="false" computedMd5Hex=""/>
<muid type="ODS">APxxxxx</muid>
</url>

I think there is a 404 http error wich is responding.

OK - well, there's the rub. The server was/went down when you tried to update. The statusCode="404" is our clue. What we want is a code "200". Sometimes when things get hung, it's because MyDrive is trying to restart from where it left off, which isn't always a good thing. The way to clear that is to delete the 'history' of whatever was being done before by killing off the MyDrive cache.

So let's try to start everything fresh. Funny, we just recommended this to someone else a few minutes ago!

  • Disconnect your device and open the Windows Run Command on the computer (‘Windows’ button in the lower left of your keyboard + R button concurrently)
  • In the box that pops up, type %localappdata% and hit enter.
  • Open the TomTom folder.
  • Delete the entire Home3 folder.
Now, connect your device and attempt to restart your update and see how it goes.

See your other thread. It's easier than what I proposed above (where we were looking for additional info), but accomplishes the same thing. If that doesn't work, we'll be asking for your log information, just as we did above.
